LULAC ACCD Parent/Child Scholarship


HISTORY

In 1997 a partnership was developed between the Alamo Community College District (ACCD) Foundation, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council No. 2, and the San Antonio College Women’s Center to create the LULAC-Reina de la Feria de las Flores Parent Child Scholarship Program.

The LULAC Scholarship committee has donated a minimum of $25,000 each year to establish a scholarship endowment in the name of the participants child. The ACCD Foundation matches the $25,000 by providing each parent selected for the program with a $1,000 scholarship to assist the parents in educational expenses.


THE PROGRAM

The LULAC Parent/Child Scholarship Program seeks to ensure the educational success of two generations by providing support, assistance and incentives for parents to successfully complete their educational objectives.

Honored in 2007 with the prestigious STAR Award by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), this unique program provides parents with $1,000 in scholarship monies to attend one of the Alamo Community Colleges (ACCD). Parents who complete their educational goal (certificate, associate degree or university transfer) guarantee a two year scholarship for their childto attend any ACCD college after their high school graduation.


ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Enroll in the Fall 2009 Semester at any ACCD college
• Be the parent of only one child, age six years or younger
• Be willing to commit to complete an educational goal at an ACCD College, within four years.
• Have no more than 30 college level earned hours.
• Have a cumulative 2.500 GPA or higher.
• Have completed a parenting program in high school or a minimum of four clock hours of parenting at a community site and provide documentation.
• Complete the application for Free Application for Federal Students Aid (FAFSA) form.
• Enroll in Fall at one of the ACCD Colleges: Northeast Lakeview College, Northwest Vista College, Palo Alto College, San Antonio College, or St. Phillips College.
• Complete Program application by the deadline and be available for a personal interview with the scholarship committee.

Rey Feo Scholarship, Inc.


REY FEO SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Rey Feo Scholarship Program is intended to assist and encourage students in completing and advancing their college education. The program is directed specifically to San Antonio and Texas Education Service Center Region 20 school district students with career advancement in mind. The Rey Feo Scholarship, Inc. is a non-profit corporation of LULAC Council No. 2, an Original Charter Council and affiliate member of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC).


TERMS

The Rey Feo Scholarship Program will award $1,500.00 scholarships to qualified San Antonio area students who are enrolled or are planning to enroll leading to a four-year or greater degree at a college or university approved by The Rey Feo Scholarship Program. The $1,500.00 awards will be divided into two equal disbursements made by September 15 and January 31. Scholarships awards are sent directly to the recipient’s college or university and deposited in the recipient’s name. The funds will be allocated towards the payments of tuition, academic fees, the purchase of required educational materials and books. The school is custodian of the funds and will be disburse the award as directed and consistent with the purpose and policies of this program. Items outside the above listed expenses are the students’ responsibility.


ELIGIBILTY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for a scholarship:
• High School Senior pending graduation or no more than 12 months after graduation.

Must be a student pursing full-time studies leading to a bachelor’s degree at a college or university approved by the Rey Feo Scholarship Review and Selection Committee.
As a college student, must maintain a college grade point average of at least 3.00 on a 4.0 grade scale or equivalent.

• For entering freshman, must have a grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale equivalent.

• For entering freshman, must have a score of at least 23 on the ACT (composite) or at least a score of 970 on
the SAT test (combined verbal and math) considered as honor students.
• All applicants must be U.S. Citizens.

• Not over funded from total scholarships and grants awarded.

• Limited only one Rey Feo Scholarship per family per year.
